Panoramio is a geolocation-oriented photo sharing mashup owned by Google. Accepted photos uploaded to the site can be accessed as a layer in Google Earth, Google Maps, with new photos being added at the end of every month. The site's goal is to allow Google Earth users to learn more about a given area by viewing the photos that other users have taken at that place. The website is available in several languages.
Pinterest is a web, mobile application company that offers a visual discovery, collection, sharing, storage tool. Users create, share the collections of visual bookmarks. Boards are created through a user selecting an item, page, website, etc., pinning it to an existing, newly created board. Users save, share pins from multiple resources onto boards based on a plethora of criteria, e.g., similar characteristics, a theme, birthday parties, planning a vacation, writing a book, interior decorating, holidays. Boards can develop projects, organize events, save pictures, data together. The site was founded by Ben Silbermann, Paul Sciarra, Evan Sharp. It is managed by Cold Brew Labs, funded by a small group of entrepreneurs, investors.
Pixabay.com is an international community for sharing quality public domain images. The website was first developed in Germany by Hans Braxmeier, Simon Steinberger. In August 2014, Pixabay offered around 240.000 free photos, vector graphics, contributed by photographers, illustrators of its community.
SmugMug is a paid photo-sharing website, image hosting service which allows users to upload both HD photos, videos to their SmugMug sites. Launched in 2002, the company offers a toolset which facilitates the selling of digital, print media for amateur, professional photographers.
